Students are invited to present their capstone Projects as part of the Capstone UnConference. Presenting at the UnConference is part of the Capstone requirement unless students choose to share their project as part of the Learning Together series or other opportunities as agreed on with the capstone advisor and capstone coordinator. Students are encouraged to invite their colleagues, mentors, family, and friends to their presentations.
Students can present both in-progress and completed projects.
Capstone UnConference is a bi-annual event that currently occurs in June and December every year. Students are invited to present in a way that is relevant to their capstone project. You can present your in-progress work (which can be a great opportunity to develop and build on your work as you are reviewing ideas and preparing your project) or your completed work.
In the process of your research, what questions, ideas, curiosities have you uncovered that you would like to talk with, about, or through with the CityU community? This is an opportunity to talk about a specific part or area of your capstone. It can be a PowerPoint presentation on ideas/themes, one to two questions about your capstone topic posed to the attendees for discussion, or a synopsis of your capstone to this point.
You are free to structure the session in a way that is supportive of your objectives and what you hope to gain. Talk/discussion/Q&A ratio of the 15-minute session can vary depending on your needs or intentions. We would suggest no more than 10 minutes if going with a traditional presentation to allow at least 5 minutes for discussion.
This format may appeal to: students whose capstones are in progress as a way to generate ideas, themes, and explore possible directions.
Essence of the session: What would you like to share and get feedback on in relation to your capstone with the MC and MEd community?
Like a “TEDTalk”, CityUTalk is a pre-recorded presentation related to your capstone. You can share your research, discuss your discoveries, reflect on your capstone and its impact. The approach to this 10-minutes is up to you, and we are happy to support you in preparing your approach. Pre-recorded presentations will be posted to an online platform* for viewing during and after the unconference.
Note: Feedback options on the presentation will be limited due to the format type.
This format may appeal to: students who are unable to attend the unconference or who may prefer this format as means of presenting for various reasons.

In the process of your capstone experience, are there any creative representations which reflect your learning taken from your capstone? This session is meant to celebrate diverse ways of knowing and sharing about your capstone experience or topic. This could include photo diaries, dance, autoethnographic representations, artifacts, poems, skits, dialogues on lessons learned etc.
This format may appeal to: Students at the end of the capstone journey or at a pivotal or transformational part of their process.
Essence of the session: What represents your capstone, its content, your experience that you would you like to share with us?
In the process of your research, have you come across or developed an idea for a tool, a resource, workshop, document, etc. that you would like to build on with others’ support. This session allows you to collaborate and expand on a tool or practice that is emerging from your capstone. This is an opportunity to plan, formulate, critique areas related to practical applications.
This format may appeal to: Students exploring practical applications and ideas, looking to implement these ideas into their professional practice.
Essence of the session: What practice or tool would you like to explore, collaborate on, build/create with others in relation to your capstone?
In the process of your research, have you developed or come across hands-on tutorials, practical tools/exercises, or embodied practices related to your capstone that you would like to teach us? This is an opportunity for you to share with us diverse mediums in counselling (e.g., roleplay modalities, grounding exercises, sand play and art), and more dynamic ways of presenting your research (e.g., experiential workshops, reflection circles)
This format may appeal to: Students exploring practical applications and ideas, looking to implement these ideas into their professional practice.
