Dear Mentor Teacher and/or Principal,
On behalf of City University of Seattle, thank you for agreeing to host a candidate from our Endorsement Program! This online handbook will outline your candidate’s minimum requirements for their practicum. While we hold these minimum requirements as a baseline, we do encourage our candidates to go above and beyond to access as many opportunities as possible to become a contributing member of your school community.
Please invite your candidate to participate in any/all ways you deem appropriate to increase foundational knowledge and pedagogy for their particular endorsement area. Please also allow them to participate in any/all aspects of your classroom and/or Professional Learning Community (PLC). We want them to gain experience observing, co-teaching, and teaching solo over the course of their time with you. Any work they do as a practicum intern under the your supervision as their mentor will count toward their hours, and we are able to be flexible in many ways if accommodations are needed.
Required Observation:
Each candidate will be assigned a University Field Supervisor for the quarter. Depending on the mode of observation, they may contact you to schedule an orientation meeting and arrange an observation. If the observation is recorded and uploaded to EdThena, no orientation meeting is required.
Mentor Responsibilities:
Please see the Mentor Responsibilities tab for more information and forms to complete. Mentor teachers may receive a stipend and clock hours for mentoring a teacher candidate.
You may explore the tabs to the left for more information about the Endorsement program, the practicum requirements for candidates, and your responsibilities as the hosting mentor and/or principal.
