A Comparative Study of Social Networking and Family Relationship in Two Different Cultures
    (2012-12-04) Li, Ai
This research is a comparative study on the usage pattern of online social networking and perception of family closeness between Chinese and American social networking user groups. Whereas previous research indicates significant correlations between online social networking and the users' family relationship both positively and negatively, this research focuses on the relationship between people's usage of online social networking and their perception of family closeness from a multicultural perspective. A 23-question survey (21 multiple choice questions and two open-ended questions) was constructed for this research based upon the results of previous studies. The survey was implemented online using Survey Monkey (http://www.surveymonkey.com) in both English and Chinese. The snowball method was used to obtain a convenient sample of 149 participants (78 from China and 71 from the United States). The results confirmed the findings of the previous studies, showing that there were different usage patterns between Chinese and American online social networking users: Additionally, perceptions of the closeness with family members were also different. In both cultures, the users' usage patterns of online social networking were related to their perception of family closeness in different levels, leading to some changes of their family closeness. These results also provided some insight for possible interventions with online social networking users and their family members as clients in psychotherapy. The findings suggested that as a new way of interpersonal communication, online social networking was worthy of being studied in the marriage and family therapy field for attaining cultural competency.

Picking up the threads: the riddle of the salabhanjika
    (1983) Williams, Sharon
I see the Salabhanjika as a link over space, time, and systems of thought; demonstrating this is the objective of my study. She links the Goddess and Tree religion of the West (Old Europe, the Mediterranean, the Near East) with the Indus Valley, and through the Indus Valley, all of India to Nepal. She links this larger ancient culture complex with the later traditions in these areas: Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Jam, Islamic. She links the religious thought and symbolism of ancient and modern, Eastern and Western, through the recurring permutations of woman and tree and their companion symbols.

Overview of strategic management: a critical analysis and personal interpretation
    (2012) Fregoso, Lorena
The success of an organization can be attributed to many interconnected and interdependent components, all of which are interwoven in the incredibly complex field of strategic management. Although each component associated with strategic management contributes to the organization in a different manor they all are functioning to meet the organizations stated goals and objectives, which are often times reflected in the organizations strategies. Strategies are formulated to either maintain or gain competitive advantage in the incredibly aggressive market place. However, strategies alone are not enough to enable strategic success. Strategic success and ultimately organizational success require effective leadership. Effective leaders aid in putting into motion or practice the necessary changes that need to take place within an organization in order to attain strategic success. However, no matter how well formulated an organizations strategy is or how effective its leaders are there are still external environmental forces that can cripple or destroy an organization. Although there is no absolute way to prevent such events from happening, an organization has a much better chance of obtaining success if its leaders are experienced, knowledgeable, and skilled in addressing such disruptive events. Although some external environmental forces can not be controlled, the way an organization plans to address such disruptive events, can be. By implementing well formulated and tailored strategies with the effective strategic management necessary to administer, manage, and control such changes affords an organization its best chances for success.

Coming to Terms: Clarifying Pedagogical Language for Teaching and Research
    (2025) Ryan, Mark
The relationship between language and learning has always been as complex as it is fascinating, a fluid interplay of words that convey and define the very essence of pedagogy. It is within this intricate landscape that my journey as a writer and an educator began, and it is this journey that has shaped the creation of Coming to Terms: Clarifying Pedagogical Language for Teaching and Research. In this book, I delve into the etymology, historical usage, and present-day application of selected pairs of specific words that are often mistakenly viewed as synonymous. My hope is that through careful examination, readers will develop a clearer understanding of how language evolves and impacts the educational discourse, leading to the correct usage of terms vital to both teaching and research.
