Technology Standards


City University of Seattle is a computing-intensive institution and requires every student to own or have consistent access to a computer. To ensure success, students should be proficient using email, the internet, and Microsoft Office productivity software.


A computer purchased in the last 3 years is recommended. The computer should have the following, at minimum:

  • 4G memory
  • 2GHz processor
  • 300G Hard drive
  • A sound card, speakers, and microphone are highly recommended as students will be required to watch and listen to course content and may be required to present virtually. Headsets and webcams are strongly encouraged.
  • High speed Internet access strongly recommended (DSL, Cable modem, WiFi, WiMax, etc.)


  • Windows 7 or MAC OS X operating system or higher
  • Microsoft Office 2007 or higher (See technology discounts below)
  • Web browser (Chrome or Firefox are recommended) with pop-up blockers disabled
  • Adobe Reader (most current version)
  • Java (most current version)
  • Media player (e.g. VLC, QuickTime, WMV)
  • Administrative control of computer to enable updates to software and/or installation of new software

  • All Project Management and MBA in Project Management courses provide students with a MS Project license through DreamSpark for use while enrolled in CityU courses.
  • Ed.D. in Leadership and Canadian Counselling Programs require students to be able to record video, perform basic video editing, and submit video to faculty in an accessible format.

To purchase software and other technology with an educational discount:

  • Microsoft Office 365 provided to students free of charge while actively taking courses at CityU. Contact the help desk for more information or assistance with downloading software.
  • Visit the CityU Bookstore and click the Technology tab for course software; visit the Library website for details on MS and Adobe software access.
